Slice of Cake - May 2019

events at cake and catwalk

Hello Cake Lovers

It seems ages since my last newsletter. There is so much to tell you as we are getting all the events planned in for the summer and now need you all to commit and join us for some of the fun.

I know that lots of you are following the Instagram and Face book and do pop into the shop to find out for yourselves. You seem to be enjoying my posts, thanks to Natalie, who gives me a whole gambit of things to include in my social media.

The shop as ever it is rammed to the rafters with delicious goodies. I have gone mad on earrings and they just keep arriving. I have introduced Stehmann, a new trouser brand from Germany. Stretch tensile and excellent quality. When you try them on you will definitely be hooked. Take a look at the video. Pippa is working that catwalk!

All the Pomodoro collection is now available both in the shop and online. Please be aware that I only have one in each size and when it’s gone it’s gone! Lots of new summer tops from Tempest which are a free size >

The Powder scarves this summer are very beautiful, particularly the silky ones, they have the most amazing animal prints. A really lovely gift >

Now that we have got past the worst of the winter season, which has been tough in retail, I am really looking forward to the summer. I have lots of events throughout June and up to mid July before the schools break up. If there is anything you would like me to do in the garden please drop me an email and I will see what I can organise.

Cake & Catwalk Events

Wednesday 5th June: Summer Sizzler Fashion Show in the Garden. In aid of the Lighthouse Women’s Aid, Sponsored by Hunnaball Family Funeral Group.

We are sharing this fab event with, Five Six Blue Boutique and the doggies and friends from the Canine Crèche. The tickets are £20, which includes Tapas and a welcome glass of Prosecco and entertainment from Andy Spall, Mr Smooth.

Tickets are available only through Eventbrite. You can also find it on their Facebook page Lighthouse woman's Aid Page.

If it all goes well and the weather hold out it should be a fun night. I recommend early booking as this is being widely advertised throughout all the participating parties. The Phoenix Jazz Band. A blend of Latin flavours and Jazz.  I am really excited to have them and I know you will love them. Tickets are £10 and available through eventbrite. Please bring your own refreshments and something to sit on. (There is always the Thomas Wolsey Pub next door and the Tavenetta for food). Dancing is never an option!

Sunday 9th June: Art and Yoga in the Garden.  1pm – 3pm A blend of life art drawing led by the talented Annabel Metnick, who will guide you through the process and inspire your artistic gifts, Daisy and Pippa from Twin Yoga will be leading the Yin Yoga practice; this is a slow form which enables the artists to draw the participants as they move slowly through the poses. You will be able to swap over and have a go at both forms and Hullabaloo is providing juices and shakes.  Please book through Eventbrite or bring your cash to the shop as this is an ArtEat event.

Wednesday 12th June: The Ipswich Library Fashion Show Our favourite ladies from the Library always make us welcome and we always have such fun. The fashion will be from Cake & Catwalk, Chic & Unique, Zebra Chic, Truffle, DJV, The Italian Shirt Shop and Tilly and Grace. Gig in the Garden: Friday 14th June - John Parker & Simon Hurley As it’s the Ipswich Jazz Festival this month we are continuing the theme to get everyone in the mood. John plays a Dixieland genre of jazz with several bands across East Anglia and Jazz festivals all over Europe. Simon is a professional guitarist from Rowhedge and is in high demand amongst the jazz circuit. He plays with several leading jazz guitarists. The two met by chance a few years ago, inspiring each other and love playing together. It will be a very special chilled night listening fabulous music. Please bring your refreshments and something to sit on...It’s not a ticketed event just contribute £5 on the night for the entertainment.

Saints Summer Street Market Sunday 16th June 10am to 4pm. We love this day and it promises to be great with over 28 stalls up and down St Peters Street with food, entertainment and more. All the shops and businesses will be open.

AND ALL THE REST Both The Stoke Bridge Workshops  and the Pom Pom Studio are running workshops which are both diverse and educational. Take a look!

Live@The SmokeHouse. Saturday 18th. 8pm till 11pm £5. A mixed night of entertainment from DJ's, accousti sets, folk and more.

I will just mention again the Ipswich Jazz Festival...Here is the link. It looks amazing this year -

DanceEast have got some incredible dance performances throughout May and June. So don’t miss out and get booking.

The Pulse Festival starts at the end of May; this eclectic mix of art, performances and bizarre entertainment is another great reason to live here.

The Cornhill now hosts a very good Farmers Market on the first Sunday of every month. Despite the rain in April, it was very well attended and lots of great stalls. Worth a visit.

Deben Events Vintage and Makers are at Snape Maltings June 30th & July 28th.

Coming up in July.. I am working on the July events for the garden which include a Latin Flavours night and a folk night with The Silburys with Hopsters Brewery providing the brew.  More to follow.......

Please support these or pass onto friends who you know would enjoy them.

Look forward to seeing you soon.

Blessings and Love Lynn
